How To Stay In Shape With The Bicycle Trainer
The bicycle trainer is a device that allows you to continue your bicycle work-outs when the weather or conditions make riding outdoor improbable. A cold and snowy winter, for example, makes using the bicycle trainer a wise and practical choice. Keeping the riding edge you so carefully honed during the warmer riding months is logical and possible to maintain with the use of a bicycle trainer. Who ever thought of the bicycle trainer as a practical device had the right idea, and my hat goes off to that innovative genius. A friend of mine named “Jose” who’s a cycling enthusiast, and owner of a bicycle trainer, says,” I really get a good work out with this bicycle trainer, by the time I have completed my workout, I am completely drenched in sweat, and ready for a nice, refreshing shower, and maybe a little down time.”
Although the feel of the bicycle trainer is not actually like riding a bike outside, it comes pretty close to it. Unlike the exercise bicycle, you are actually riding the bicycle that you would normally ride outside. It’s the same seat, same pedals, you have the ability to change gears, and to stand up and really push yourself to your limits. Where you loose the realism in the riding performance is in the front wheel which is locked in and stationary, all motion is performed by the use of the pedals and the back wheel. The good thing about using the trainer is that you do get a good workout. Whether you’re riding outside or inside with a bicycle trainer your muscles don’t know the difference, your cardiovascular system can’t tell the difference, your workout will keep you in shape and keep you ready for the great outdoors. So use your bicycle trainer everyday, just as you would do if your were riding outside.
Bicycle trainers comes in many styles and types, but there are certain features you should look for. The first is ease of use. You should be able to mount and dismount you bicycle from the trainer with relative ease. Examine the construction of the trainer. Make sure that it’s strong and able to withstand a vigorous workout. Look for feature that appeal to the style of workouts you would like to achieve, and if possible try one out and experience the type of ride you will experience during your workouts. Will it be smooth and quiet, or loud and bumpy. By the way a bumpy experience is usually due to the type of tires your bike uses. The smoother the tires the smoother and quieter the ride. Mountain bike tires with their deep threads will produce a louder bumpier styled ride.
One more thing to consider. Make sure that while operating your bicycle trainer, small children or pets are not likely to come into contact with the spokes. |
